About Neutron

Neutron is Rocket Lab’s next-generation rocket—a medium-lift, reusable launch vehicle with capabilities for human spaceflight. As part of our Neutron team, you’ll contribute to the design, testing, and integration of the Archimedes engines, launch pads, and test sites across the U.S.

What You’ll Do

As a Principal Development Engineer, you will:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including structural analysts, designers, and manufacturing engineers.
  • Assess and develop mechanical structures and mechanisms for the Neutron platform.
  • Lead material selection, process definitions, and quality assurance to meet the stringent demands of space missions.
  • Design and oversee testing to build material databases for metallic components.
  • Manage projects involving both internal and external stakeholders, ensuring timely delivery and staying within scope.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the growth of Rocket Lab’s engineering expertise.

Qualifications You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • 8+ years of industry experience in material systems for aerospace, automotive, or marine applications.
  • Hands-on expertise in metallic materials, composites, and related processes.
  • Experience in carbon fiber manufacturing, including hand-lamination and bonding operations.
  • Knowledge of rapid composite tooling design and fabrication.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with ASTM standards, additive manufacturing, and welding.
  • Experience with CAD software like NX, CATIA, or SolidWorks.
  • Knowledge of cryogenic and elevated temperature applications.
  • Expertise in composite fabrication and mechanical/thermal testing.
