About the Role We are currently seeking motivated individuals to fill three Orchard Hand positions at Rosewood Orchards, located near Hastings-Napier. These are permanent, full-time roles that offer the opportunity to contribute to a forward-thinking and innovative pipfruit operation.

About Rosewood Orchards Situated in the heart of Hawke’s Bay, Rosewood Orchards operates 80 hectares of apple orchards, primarily featuring the Envy and Jugala apple varieties. The orchards employ modern growing structures, advanced technology, and innovative systems to maximize productivity and sustainability.

Role Overview This position is ideal for individuals passionate about working outdoors and keen to grow within the pipfruit industry. As an Orchard Hand, you will be part of a supportive team and gain hands-on experience under the guidance of an experienced operational team. This role offers personal development opportunities and the potential for career advancement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Harvesting: Perform harvest operations to meet productivity and quality standards while minimizing crop damage.
  • Pruning and Thinning: Prune and thin trees to promote optimal growth and fruit production.
  • Monitoring Trees: Regularly inspect trees for pests and diseases, reporting issues to the manager.
  • Irrigation Maintenance: Assist in maintaining irrigation systems and executing weed control programs.
  • Orchard Maintenance: Support general orchard upkeep as directed by the Orchard Manager.
  • Seasonal Tasks: Participate in seasonal activities under the manager’s guidance.
  • Team Collaboration: Work efficiently with team members while adhering to safety standards.

Candidate Profile We are looking for individuals who thrive in outdoor environments and possess the following qualities:

  • Experience: Prior experience in an outdoor working environment or a similar role.
  • Skills: Strong organizational and time management skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Attitude: A positive, can-do mindset with problem-solving abilities.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Machinery Skills: Proficiency in operating machinery and plant equipment.
  • Licensing: A current New Zealand driver’s license or the ability to obtain one.
  • Compliance Awareness: Understanding of standards such as Global GAP (desirable but not essential).
