Eligibility Requirements for Student Internships in the Canadian Public Service
To be eligible for a public service job under this program, you must meet the following criteria:
- Full-Time Student Status
You must be registered as a full-time student in a validated post-secondary co-op/internship program (including programs for students with disabilities and adult education/retraining programs at the secondary level). - Academic Requirement
The internship must be an academic requirement as determined by your institution. - Minimum Age Requirement
You must meet the minimum age for work in your province/territory.

Responsibilities and Essential Skills
As a Data Analyst / Data Scientist Intern, you will gain experience in data analysis, machine learning, and data visualization by supporting various projects. Key responsibilities may include:
- Develop Visual Dashboards: Use Power BI and other BI tools on cloud analytics platforms.
- Data Collection & Analysis: Collect, validate, and manipulate data, including conducting surveys and gathering research statistics.
- Financial Modeling: Apply analytics to areas such as cash management and risk management.
- Project Data Automation: Help create automated dashboards that mine project data.
- Advanced Data Analytics: Use techniques like natural language processing (NLP) to identify global trends.
As part of a dynamic team, successful candidates will harness data to support policy initiatives, create visual dashboards, and automate analysis processes.
Experience and Educational Requirements
To qualify, you need experience in at least two of the following:
- Data Collection: Use surveys, social media data, or interviews to gather insights.
- Data Management: Create metadata and manage data integrity.
- Qualitative Analysis: Code and categorize unstructured data.
- Quantitative Analysis: Prepare and analyze numerical data.
- Storytelling Through Data: Use data to inform decision-making and policy.
Bonus Skills (not mandatory but beneficial):
- Results-Based Frameworks
- Power BI, R, Python, SAP, CRM Systems
