DCBS is looking for a Family Support Specialist I who is passionate about assisting people and promoting family self-sufficiency. Our agency provides assistance to families with professionalism and ethics, ensuring that services are offered to Commonwealth families in need. The Family Support Specialist is a knowledgeable team member who serves as a key link between children and their families and government support programmes. To ensure services to vulnerable residents, the employee is expected to execute at the greatest level. This is a difficult job that needs maturity and self-control.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Clients are interviewed in person and/or over the phone to acquire information for public assistance applications.
Client verification is used to evaluate eligibility for government assistance programmes.
Clients should informed about programme requirements, such as what information required to handle their case and any programme requirements to which they may be subject.
Identify community resources and make appropriate recommendations.
Respond to customer queries about basic programme regulations as well as case-specific issues.

Minimum Prerequisites
EDUCATION:
- Two years (54 semester hours) in a college or university are required.
- NONE OF THE FOLLOWING: EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS
- NONE if EDUCATION substituted for EXPERIENCE.
Year-for-year, experience in reviewing, monitoring, determining eligibility for, and/or administering Food Stamps, the Kentucky Transitional Assistance Program, Medical Assistance, Child Support, or other public assistance programmes will substitute for the required college.
AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Working Conditions: NONE
In an office setting, performs work tasks and/or visits customers in their homes.
Period of Probation
Except as stipulated in KRS 18A.111, this position has a 6-month initial and promotional probationary term.
