We are currently looking for multiple casual workers to assist with the harvesting and planting of ginger. Position: Picker (Casual) Pickers play an essential role in harvesting ginger either by ground picking or using Elevated Work Platforms (EWPs). The role requires a keen eye for quality control, a focus on safety, and the ability to work efficiently in a team environment.
Responsibilities for Hiring Ginger Harvesting
- Harvest ginger using ground picking techniques or Elevated Work Platforms (EWPs).
- Conduct quality inspections to ensure only premium ginger is collected.
- Operate harvesting equipment safely and efficiently.
- Transport harvested ginger to designated collection areas.
- Maintain cleanliness of equipment and workspaces to ensure hygiene and efficiency.
- Promptly report any mechanical or operational issues to the management team.
Skills & Requirements:
- Previous experience in fruit or vegetable harvesting is beneficial.
- Ability to work at heights (for pickers using EWPs) and operate packing machinery (for packers).
- Strong understanding of workplace health and safety (WHS) standards and quality control measures.
- Good physical stamina to perform manual labor over extended periods.
- Detail-oriented with excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- A valid driver’s license is advantageous but not mandatory.
Performance Expectations:
- Achieve daily and weekly picking and packing targets consistently.
- Maintain high-quality standards while minimizing errors.
- Follow all safety guidelines and ensure proper handling of equipment.
- Keep equipment well-maintained and report any necessary repairs.
This position is ideal for Working Holiday Visa holders seeking to complete their regional work requirements. Couples are encouraged to apply together. There is an opportunity for ongoing employment for dedicated and hardworking individuals.
Work Conditions:
- Typical workdays are Monday to Friday, ranging from 8 to 10 hours, subject to weather and field conditions.
- Hourly wage: $29.33 per hour.
- No on-site accommodation is provided; however, options are available at nearby caravan parks, motels, or hostels.
- Reliable transportation is necessary for commuting to and from work.
