About the Mint
The Mint is seeking an Advisor Corporate Health and Safety to thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Corporate Health and Safety, this role is essential in providing technical expertise, analysis, and recommendations to effectively manage and resolve health and safety-related issues at our Ottawa facility and, occasionally, at the Winnipeg Plant.
Key Responsibilities
- Hazard Identification: Conduct ergonomic assessments, exposure assessments, chemical reviews, risk assessments, equipment reviews, job hazard analyses, and utilize various analytical tools to identify and assess workplace hazards and risks.
- Equipment Evaluation: Participate in evaluating new equipment, materials, and processes to ensure compliance with standards, codes, and legal requirements.
- Risk Mitigation: Assist with implementing controls to mitigate identified hazards and improve workplace safety.
- Incident Management: Perform thorough accident and incident investigations, submit timely reports to regulatory authorities (including Labour Canada, WSIB Ontario, and WCB Manitoba), evaluate incident trends, and implement strategic action plans.
- Advisory Role: Serve as an advisor to management on mitigating health and safety risks, addressing employee concerns, and managing day-to-day health and safety issues.
- Psychological Safety Support: Promote psychological safety and engage in corporate strategies to enhance employee well-being.
- Training and Promotion: Develop, coordinate, and deliver health and safety training while promoting health and safety initiatives across the organization.
- Program Development: Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of health and safety programs and procedures, fostering a strong safety culture at the Mint.
- Safety Inspections: Conduct workplace safety inspections, job hazard analyses, monitor indoor air quality, and assess exposure to chemical and physical agents.
- Performance Audits: Conduct audits of Health, Safety, and Environmental Program elements to evaluate effectiveness and identify improvement opportunities.
Qualifications
Language Requirements:
- Advanced proficiency in both official languages (English and French).
Education:
- A university degree or certificate in a related field, or a combination of education and relevant work experience. Preferred certifications include ROHT, ROH, CIH, or CRSP (with industrial hygiene experience).
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant business experience.
Skills and Abilities:
- Proven ability to deliver projects within established timelines while managing competing priorities effectively.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- High level of integrity and confidentiality.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively, serving as a technical lead for junior colleagues.
- Proactive attitude toward feedback and suggestions for improvement.
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, providing confident recommendations to address business issues.
Knowledge:
- In-depth understanding of the Canada Labour Code Part II, Canada Occupational Health & Safety Regulations, and the regulatory framework in Canada related to workplace health and safety.
- Familiarity with occupational health and safety programs.
