Salary:

  • Paint & Pre-Finish Instructor (GL-PCF-08): $30.94 to $33.62 per hour
  • Sheet Metal/Welder Instructor (GL-SMW-10): $34.90 to $37.94 per hour
  • Mechanic Heavy Equipment Instructor (GL-VHE-10): $32.81 to $35.64 per hour
  • Inmate Training Differential: Rate varies by position; CSSDA $2000.00 applicable to some positions.

Duties:

As a CORCAN Instructor, you will be responsible for the development, delivery, and ongoing implementation of CORCAN’s employment training programs. This includes supervising and training offenders while completing various projects and tasks. Your role will encompass specialized duties as well as general operations within CORCAN, serving a diverse clientele, including governmental, private sector, Indigenous communities, and non-governmental organizations.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Providing on-the-job and vocational training for offenders.
  • Ensuring multi-dimensional objectives are met related to employment and training, reintegration programs, security, safety, production targets, and customer satisfaction.

Work Environment:

CORCAN, as part of the Correctional Service of Canada, oversees the Employment and Employability Program for offenders serving federal sentences. Instructors provide unique opportunities to conduct industry-related duties in a correctional setting, supervising and training offenders assigned to the CORCAN program.

Qualifications:

Education:

For Paint & Pre-Finish Instructor:

  • Valid trade certification related to the position (e.g., Painter, Motor Vehicle Body Repairer) recognized by the provincial trade authority or equivalent.
  • Or an acceptable combination of education, training, and/or experience in the related domain.

For Sheet Metal/Welder Instructor:

  • Valid trade certification in an area related to the position recognized by the provincial trade authority or equivalent.
  • Or an acceptable combination of education, training, and/or experience.

Mechanic Heavy Equipment Instructor:

  • Valid trade certification in an area related to the position (e.g., vehicle mechanic, heavy equipment mechanic) recognized by the provincial trade authority or equivalent.
  • Or an acceptable combination of education, training, and/or experience.

Experience:

  • Experience working within a production environment related to the position, including equipment maintenance.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of CORCAN employment programs.
  • Understanding of metal materials, fabrication processes, and/or basic welding techniques applicable to the position.

Abilities:

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to plan and complete projects.

Operational Requirements:

  • Willingness to work overtime as required on short notice.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
