Position Overview

As a Family Service Worker, you will be responsible for providing crucial services such as child protection, family assessments, casework, legal support, and reporting. You will work under the mandates of the FSIN Indian Child Welfare and Family Support Act and the Saskatchewan Child and Family Services Act. This role plays a pivotal part in ensuring the safety and well-being of children within the community.


Key Responsibilities

  • Child Protection & Assessment: Investigate allegations of neglect, physical, or sexual abuse, and assess family dynamics and functioning.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify risk factors and develop intervention plans to ensure children’s safety.
  • Legal Support: Prepare for and attend family court proceedings, guiding families through the legal process.
  • Comprehensive Child Support: Provide ongoing support, training, and treatment plans that address children’s emotional, physical, cultural, social, and educational needs.
  • Foster Family Support: Collaborate with foster families, ensuring they offer quality care and services to children in their homes.
  • Long-Term Care Planning: Provide long-term care planning for children when necessary.
  • Family Counseling & Intervention: Offer counseling services and support for both children and their families, facilitating family interventions when required.
  • Casework & Permanency Planning: Deliver casework related to children in care and ensure effective permanency planning with caregivers.
  • Collaboration: Work positively with coworkers, supervisors, and management to continuously improve service delivery.

Qualifications

  • Education: University Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (social work, psychology, child and family studies, etc.).
  • Experience: 1-2 years of experience in child protection, family services, or a related field.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with child protection laws, particularly the FSIN Indian Child Welfare and Family Support Act and Saskatchewan Child and Family Services Act.
