Position: Harvest Operator (Casual)

Location: Proserpine Prawn Farm, Whitsundays, Queensland

About the Role:

As a Casual Harvest Operator, your primary responsibility is to operate various types of machinery to assist in the harvesting of prawns from aquaculture ponds. The role requires a strong emphasis on safety for your team, yourself, and the prawns, while managing tasks that range from prawn extraction to civil works around the farm.

Key Responsibilities:

• Harvesting Prawns: Operating equipment like backhoes, excavators, and trucks to safely collect and transport prawns to processing areas.
• Safety: Ensuring a high standard of work and adherence to safety protocols.
• General Civil Tasks: When not actively harvesting, you will support general civil tasks such as roadworks, groundskeeping, seaweed harvesting, and firebreak management. Other duties could involve truck driving or waste removal as needed.

Location Details:

The Proserpine Prawn Farm, located between Airlie Beach and Bowen, is Australia’s largest prawn farm. The farm offers employees the unique opportunity to work amidst the scenic beauty of the Whitsundays, making for a rewarding work environment.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

• Essential:
  • A valid backhoe or excavator licence.
  • Basic technology proficiency, especially in using an iPad for work-related tasks.
• Desirable:
  • Previous experience in aquaculture or agriculture is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • A Heavy Rigid (HR) Licence is preferred but not essential.
