About the Role: Machine Learning Intern
We are looking for a Machine Learning Intern to join our R&D team from November to late February. As an intern, you will work on refining our large language model (LLM) question-answering system, which helps our team access a vast knowledgebase of scientific data collected over the past 19 years.
You will be responsible for:
- Improving the accuracy and speed of the LLM’s responses.
- Integrating new data modalities such as genetic and chemical information.
- Exploring bioinformatics and cheminformatics tools to broaden the scope of the question-answering system.
You’ll be supported by an experienced developer throughout the process as you lead the investigation and implementation of new machine learning techniques.
Position Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Availability to work full-time over the summer (up to 400 hours).
- Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
- In-person or hybrid work from our Parnell office preferred, but remote is possible.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills:
- Proficiency in Python.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Interest in applying machine learning to solve scientific challenges.
Work Environment:
- Able to work on a computer for a full working day.
